AcousticsEveryone spends thousands on recording gear and instruments but nobody ever thinks about acoustics. Sure you may be getting decent recordings in your concrete basement, but could it be better? Yes, it can. Over the next few weeks I plan on covering some of the basics of acoustics. I'd like to take some of the mystery out of standing waves, flutter echo, reflections, bass issues and everything else that keeps you from getting that great mix. Who should I buy my acoustic treatments from? What should I get? How much should I spend? What is best for my room? My control room and my booth are the same room, how do I treat that? One great site I found is Primacoustic. They sell affordable full room solutions. Many Primacoustic solutions are presented in the form of pre-arranged room kits made up of modular components. Another site is Auralex Acoustics. They offer quite a few different solutions that balance great looking AudioTile and amazing acoustics. I hope to find some other great resources in the upcoming weeks, to help you create the "acoustical magical space" you need to record great music in your home studio.
