Hey Im recording a lengthy song about 45 minutes or so on my BR-600. I have the drum track down and I haven't run out of memory yet. What I've been doing is recording the song in sections, exporting them and then deleteing them to save space. Im trying to export new material but everytime I try I get the message "card full" Is there anything I can do to get the tracks to my computer without deleting any?

Hi! If you got a BR 600, what kind of Microphones can you use with it ? I just bought a sEX1 and that doesnt work. What microphones is recommended? I will appreciate quick answers.
Hi Linn, Any dynamic mic
Hi Linn,
Any dynamic mic works, really. Your mic doesn't work because it's a condenser mic, which needs its own power supply. So you need a phantom power source - from a dedicated unit or a little mixer etc.
If you're really stuck though, the onboard mics are okay. As long as you keep the effects off.

i don't know about where you are but in alabama we have cvs pharmacies. they have the lexar 1gig cards but they are figh at regular price. but every month they have a sale on them -it has been a few months- for $10.99. I bought 4 but haven't even cracked the seal on three of em because i can get 3 mastered recordings (i never use 8 tracks though...5 tops) in one card. i bought 4 because i know that they are only going to get harder to find and right now i don't want to change my recording medium just because of an obsolete memory card.
even if you have to lay out a hundred to get a few of em, i think it will be worth it.
i wonder if boss will bother to offer updates to the the br600's software to accept 2gig or higher?

ive been using my br 600 for about a year. turned it on yesterday and when the imput is on 'mic' there is a massive hum. it dissappears on any other imput, ive tried chaging the dc , just using batteries, trying different headphones etc. im thinking it may be a problem with how its earthed but i have know idea what to do... what can i do???

Sounds like you have your master volume control slider on. Slide the control all the way down to zero. The hum is feedback from your monitor speakers. If you don't have the monitor speakers turned on and only using headphones than you have a different problem.
I have had this problem and it only occurs when the monitor speakers are on and the Master Slider is not at the bottom of the slide. It will not happen on the guitar input because you are sending a signal from the guitar electrically to the BR-600 with no sound from the speakers.

Hi all/anyone- need some
Hi all/anyone- need some advice! Am making a rough and ready live recording of my band on my Boss BR 600 tomorow evening (not a gig.. is just to record rough mix of songs entirely live). Am not that experienced with the BR 600, have mostly used it for simple avoustic + vocals tracks at home for which i've useed an external mic (Samsung C01 condenser mic|). But am wondering which would be best tomorrow - the external mic positioned well? or just the on-board mics on the Boss? Is it simply a matter of trial and error? Band is fairly raucous - 2 x guitars bass drums vocal and harp Thx in advance for any advice!

I've recorded a couple of acts live using the BR 600 built-in condensers and found the recordings to be an excellent replay of the room experience...i was actually blown away by the natural sound. Reminds me of years ago, when our drummer, Fred, brought a whiz-kid "pal" to record us at a club. He had a 6" section of 1x4 wood with three little condenser pods taped or glued to it. It looked like a joke, but the recordings were awesome and done fairly close to a fairly loud band. Not being a super techie, I don't know what the drawbacks and/or limitations might be with little condensers but I am somewhat fussy about sound and the BR 600 does a great "live" job...in fact, the instructions were so dense/unclear on recording (especially drum patterns) that I gave up and now use it mainly for live recording

Thanks for response/recommendation. On the session in question i ended up using (to reasonable effect) the external condenser mic. Levels all wrong but that was our fault for not experimenting enough. Also possibly for arranging pa/amps in a circle as per our usual rehearsals, rather than in-a-line like a gig line up i think. But will keep trying.. incl next live gig. Cheers.
HI Rob, Best bet is just try
HI Rob,
Best bet is just try out both ways. i've had some great live recordings from the built in mic's but it's whatever works for you. if you position your the amps so each guitar amp is either side of the br and the bass positioned in the middle with the harp slightly closer with drums further away. i've had lots of fun messing around with the positioning of the br using the on board mics. see what works for you though. i've found reading up about old way of recording they used in the 50's before multitracking started becoming popular good to apply to recording with the br. have fun mate!

Cheers mate! appreciated. Am relieved to hear is just as likely to work well with the onboard mics. We're in urgent need of a (reasonable) recording with which to get some gigs.. none of us exactly time rich so don't have huge amount of time for experimentation... thanks again.

i am desperatley hoping someone has an answer for this!
I'm in middle of mixing down a friends album on the BR and was busy deleting some songs that i'd backed up already on the PC and then thought i was in the [Sel] option and clicked on the next track i was going to mix down but i happened to be in [Song ERS] option and BAM! i deleted a track....my whole body froze and i felt utter disbelief and rage and sadness etc etc...
IS THERE ANY WAY THAT YOU CAN RETRIEVE DATA FROM THE MEMORY CARD EVEN IF YOU'VE DELETED THE SONG!?
i know that the br stores up info even after you've deleted/recorded over it but is it the same for [Song ERS] ??
i'm hoping someone knows
gona call roland uk tomorrow anyway but still would be so so so helpful if anyone knew!!
my email is thequietrevolution@hotmail.com - please email me!! or message back on here
other than that - br = great workstation even tho you do get errors and you're constantly bouncing etc...its a great machine. great design. can't wait for a newer version of it. perhaps a ruggedised version? even tho it's supposed to be light weight it would be nice to have a slightly sturdier case.
i run a collective out in west wales and we all pretty much use a br 600,. some have br-900 v2's and the older br-1200.
have a listen to some of the stuff recorded on our br's @ www.myspace.com/qrcollective
but PLEASE IF ANYONE KNOWS HOW TO RETRIEVE DELETED SONGS LET ME KNOW!! Thanks for your time

Was wondering if you had any luck retrieving the data.
I am having the exact same problem.
I downloaded a file recovery program and recovered the data, but not WITH the original FILE NAMES. i have a bunch of files that look like this; FILE0000.CHK, FILE0001.CHK, ETC.
All the files are in the Roland/Bro folder. I am sure this is the data, and now need to know how to rename these files!
Let me know if you come across someone who has helped you, or where you are in the recovery process. I will let you know if I have success as well.

no luck. the files are there
no luck. the files are there but they are corrupt. as far as roland are concerned. there is no way of getting it back.

Hi Gib,
Why assume the BR600 is faulty? It's more likely to be the cable than anything. But, as the previous poster stated, don't forget to check the record settings. After a glass of wine you can forget that you haven't selected mic or line input.

Haha that was pretty funny.
Haha that was pretty funny. I use the cable on a daily basis so I know it's not the cable. Also, the recording setting is set to guitar. Is there maybe a setting somewhere?
Well, I've fixed and built a
Well, I've fixed and built a few cables, but haven't yet opened up the BR 600 case. First thing you've got to have is a continuity tester...little device that beeps when a circuit is good. Inside the BR600, check that the 2 internal wires are attached to the female jack (i.e. the BR 600 1/4" connection); if not, a simple solder of the connection(s) will fix. If this was the problem, before you reattach case, plug a cable in and check that there is continuity between the far-end tip and the inside-the-case jack connection; do the same and check the sleeve of the far-end jack with inside-the-case connection.
This is a starting point...I assume you've checked that all your cables are good! Also, that the input volume is not on "0" (don't take offense, but we sometimes overlook simple things!)
Good luck!
After the first two weeks of
After the first two weeks of using BR 600, I got the CARD ERROR message and lost a lot of recording. I see MANY comments where people have memory card problems or error messages and am frankly worried about committing much more to this machine.
Is there a flaw in it? Has anyone had stellar results?
I have a Line 6 interface box which can input guitar, bass, XLR mic into GarageBand on my Apple. I am torn between just using this BR600 as a very nice onsite room recorder to get band performances versus using it for song builds. Will someone tell me honestly what advantage this has over Garageband which has a simple interface and makes multitracking easy and doesn't seem to require such handwringing and angst? Is it the "Real Men use PCs" thing where you have to be a programmer vs WYSIWYG "amateurs"? I've bought another card and wonder if everything should be backed up on an hourly basis to my Mac hard-drive?
I love the sound quality but this lack of confidence in its consistency is holding me back...and I spent good money on this little sucker.

Hi paulnigel,
I've had the dreaded card error messages a few times myself, but, hey, siht happens.
Strangely enough, it's not the BR600 - memory card faults are strictly... faults in the memory card. So if you aren't using an approved memory card, and I'm not, then you can't blame the recorder. Likewise, 2GB cards. I think the BR600 only supports 1GB. So using anything bigger is an invitation for a crash.

hi,
i own a br600, and after a while knowing where its strenghts are this thing can deliver pretty good results. The thing is simple to use and I don't have to worry about anything computer related that'll hold me back. I think the thing is you've got to think a little differently to the recording methods using a multi-tracker.
I got the card error once after the memory was full (just delete or back up to comp). if your using the one that came with it I'd really consider getting a bigger one.
But, what you can do on a multi-tracker you can do on a computer so...

Thanks...appreciate the feedback. Has anyone had much experience doing a lot of tracks (e.g. 8-16 tracks with a lot of bouncing)? Do you backup to a computer once you're done each track/song or almost filled the card?
I bought a new SanDisk 1.0 GB card online (couldn't find any retail stores who carry anything smaller than 2.0 GB)...I had to reformat the card that came in the BR 600 and lost the contents. When you've labored so many hours and lost everything after following the manual, it's totally depleting...
I don't own the BR-600, so I
I don't own the BR-600, so I might get flamed for this. But, to me it sounds like this thing is anti-multitrack friendly. Sounds like people constantly lose data, get errors and are just plain confused by this machine.
I may be unpopular, but why not scrap the BR-600 and use your PC to record? I can do as many tracks as I want, tons of effects, and have never lost one piece of data.

Hi Todd,
It's horses for courses. I've had great results from the BR600 but, then again, I read the instruction book. The problem is, people jump straight into "creator" mode instead of spending an hour recording some some rubbish, reading the instructions, and finding out how to bouncedown etc with no fear of losing data.
Read the book people, the answers are all there.

Thanks for input...I wonder if anyone at Boss is listening or has published a mea culpa for wasting so much creative time.

This reminds me of trying to program a Boss Drum machine...horrible experience...I know I'm a wuss but can't they create a manual that does a step-by-step walk through from simple 4-6 track usage to muti-track bouncing? It should not be written by the guy who programmed the machine but by a somewhat experienced recording person who has to think like an amateur...which, let's face it, most of us are. The manual is extensive but not written well for beginners. If I write one, will anyone buy it???!!!

I've recorded 5 songs using only tracks 1 & 2. When trying to bounce to 7/8 I get a "CARD FULL" message after only 1 1/2 songs. I don't belive there is anything else on the Memory Card. This was a live recording and don't want to lose anything. Any suggestions?
you can check the how much
you can check the how much memory is left by going to utilities, scroll left to system and toggle system info to ON. exit. then just press record (not play as well) then it'll tell you how much memory is left to record on. if your still using the card that came with it, i'd suggest exporting each song to computer after bouncing/mastering.
Also you could....after bouncing to 7/8 delete the tracks on 1/2 to free up memory, but make sure you've got it sounding right first.

Hey,
Recently brought a Boss Br-600 and have recorded a quick demo. However, I have somehow managed to record 30 mins of drums before my actual recording. For the life of me i can't figure out how to cut this useless sound. How would I select 0.00 to 30.00 and delete this? Thanks if anyone can help

hi,
what? the drums were already on the card? just delete the track in ultilities-track edit-erase. or clear the whole card by initializing in system. read the manual.

I am having a real difficulty and I ma hoping somebody can help me.
I have a working 1GB card in my BR600 and have been recording a new song project (so far just 4 tracks). My card still has plenty of space.
However, I am now getting the EVENT FULL message whenever I try to do ANY functions. Unable to record, edit, delete etc... Im Stuck!
In the manual it says I need to optimize the song as I have been using the punch in/punch out function but I even get the EVENT FULL when trying to perform that function. As it stands now I am unable to do ANYTHING with my recorder....( including bouncing or mastering) So very frustrating as I am in the middle of a rather interesting and great sounding project.
Can anybody help me? I have had no response from Boss/Roland customer service....
Thanks...... Lee
move your tracks and tones
move your tracks and tones to your computer, not changing them to wave. you can save drum sets/sounds, drum patches, etc., to your computer.
then initialize the card. i know this seems an extreme solution, but it was all I could make that Event Full or whater it was from happening.
put all your stuff back on. you do this through the utility button/USB patch/BACKUP patch.
the manual explains much better than I!
hope this did some good
so i was just exporting
so i was just exporting tracks to my computer when on the boss br 600 screen it said "CARD ERROR" or something like that and now it just says "keep power on! card testing..." and its had that on their for like 19 minutes now help please?
Hi Daniel, I've had this
Hi Daniel,
I've had this problem a couple of times. I believe that your last song may now be a corrupt file. What I do is connect the card to my pc via a card reader and rename the songs... I swap, say song003, which may be corrupt, with song001. Then when I start the br600, it works again... though not with the song I want loaded. If you try to reload the corrupt file and everything hangs again, I'm afraid you'll have to delete it.
I have had this issue
I have had this issue also. If i remember I think i made sure that everything was saved then exited the song by selecting another song via the utility. Then i reselected the first one again and the card error message didnt reappear. I hope this helps.

I AM DESPERATE, NOW. Hello,
I AM DESPERATE, NOW.
Hello, I really hope someone could help me...
I've just finished recording a new song on my BR600, and I bounced all the tracks on track 7/8. As I decided to erase a slight noise for a few seconds at the end of this track, it happened that ALL the tracks disappeared!! All of them!!!! I am not a beginner, since I've been using th BR600 for a few years, and I'm sure I did nothing wrong. The card information still says that my song is "57Mb", as the tracks were not really "lost", but anyway every virtual track, on every track is absolutely EMPTY, and I am dying... The backup I made right after on my PC also shows a 57 Mb song.
Please, if you have any tips that could save my work...
Thanks a lot, cheers everybody.
