Cheap Home StudioLots of people think that they need a brand new Mac G5 and Pro Tools and expensive mics to make decent recordings. While all of these things would be ideal, they are not necessary. For instance, my setup is a pc that has an AMD 350 processor, 512 ram and some 80 gig hard drives. Nothing special. Yes, I am running Pro Tools as well as some great mics. But if you are a newbie, with a tight budget, you'd be surprised how cheap you can do things. Stick with a PC, Mac's are very expensive. As for software you could use the very inexpensive n-Track studio or Audacity which I believe is free. I would spend most of your budget on getting a decent mic. The better mic you get, the better your recordings will be. Remember, you can get a decent mic for under $200. Look into the AKG's. They sound great and are very affordable. Obviously, the more money you have to throw at your home studio the better off you'll be, but start cheap and build as you go.
